Let your Claude build your personal wiki
By the Toolbay team · Updated
A notes vault is just Markdown files, which is exactly what AI agents are good at. Connect Claude to your vault and it can write and maintain a personal Wikipedia of your projects, the people you work with and the areas of your life, linked together and colored on the graph. Bedrock, a free notes app that opens Obsidian vaults, sets this up in about two minutes.
Step by step
- Install Bedrock. Install the free Bedrock notes app from Toolbay. On first start it makes a vault and opens a three-page setup guide.
- Connect your Claude. Open Settings › Connect an AI agent and click Connect next to Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor. Restart Claude Desktop or Cursor afterwards.
- Copy the wiki prompt. Page one of the setup guide shows a prompt with your vault's real path filled in. Copy it and paste it into Claude.
- Let Claude work. Claude reads Bedrock's instructions file, learns about you from what it can already reach, and writes linked notes for each project, person and area of your life.
- Pick the look. Page three picks graph colors for each life area, app colors and a book theme, or lets Claude design a theme for you.
What Claude builds
The wiki prompt asks Claude to be thorough and to use every source it already has access to, skipping the ones it doesn't: its memory and instruction files, your GitHub repos and recent work (through the gh command line), project folders on your computer, and connectors such as email, calendar or Drive if you have added them to Claude. It then writes notes tagged by life area:
| Feature | Tag | Shown on the graph |
|---|---|---|
| Work | area/work | Brighter the more recently it was worked on |
| Projects | area/projects | Brighter the more recently it was worked on |
| Health | area/health | Brighter the more recently it was worked on |
| Money | area/money | Brighter the more recently it was worked on |
| Learning | area/learning | Brighter the more recently it was worked on |
| People | area/people | Brighter the more recently it was worked on |
| Personal | area/personal |
Keep it up to date
Page two of the setup guide has a second prompt that sets up a local daily update, so the wiki keeps up with what you did each day. Bedrock's own requests (like recoloring every note after you change colors) go into Bedrock/Instructions for Claude.md, and Claude checks them off the next time it works in the vault.
Prefer the terminal? Bedrock installs a bedrock command: bedrock search, bedrock daily --append, bedrock backlinks, bedrock mcp and more, each with --json.
Using Obsidian?
Bedrock opens Obsidian vaults as they are, so you can point it at your existing vault and still use Obsidian side by side. See Bedrock vs Obsidian.
Questions people ask
- Can Claude read my Obsidian vault?
- Yes, through an MCP server. Bedrock includes one: its agent connection lets Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor search, read and edit notes in the vault on your computer. Obsidian needs a community plugin for the same thing.
- What can Claude do in my notes?
- Search with the same query language as the app, read, create, edit a whole note or one section, append, rename or move with links updated, delete to the vault's .trash folder, list backlinks and tags, find notes by property, and work with today's daily note.
- Does my vault get uploaded anywhere?
- Bedrock's agent connection only works on your own computer, through a helper your agent app starts or a local address with a private token. What Claude itself sends to Anthropic follows your Claude settings, so only connect vaults you are happy for Claude to read.
- What is 'Instructions for Claude.md'?
- A note Bedrock keeps at Bedrock/Instructions for Claude.md. Bedrock writes requests and your preferences there (like 'recolor every note after I changed the graph colors'); Claude does the open requests and checks them off each time it works in the vault.
