Compliance work is reading documents and activity against a rulebook — high-volume, detail-heavy, and expensive to do thoroughly by hand. AI does the first pass tirelessly: checking every document against every rule and flagging exceptions with evidence, while accountable humans make the calls that carry legal weight.
Translate each regulation or policy clause into concrete checks ('every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link', 'no customer data in log files'). Vague obligations can't be automated; this translation is the real work, do it with counsel where it matters.
Wire checks into the flow — before an email sends, when a contract is signed, when data moves — rather than in quarterly archaeology. A violation caught before it happens costs a correction; one found months later costs an incident.
Each finding should cite the rule and quote the violating content. Evidence-free flags can't be triaged, and a compliance system that cries wolf gets ignored — which is worse than no system, because it creates false confidence.
Log every check run, finding, and resolution with timestamps. When a regulator or auditor asks 'how do you monitor this?', a continuously-generated trail is a better answer than any policy document.
AI flags; humans decide. Materiality, interpretation, and remediation are accountable decisions — route findings to a named owner with an SLA, and never let 'the system checks it' become 'nobody owns it'.
